ok so, let's talk about this site as a whole,
i've been long feeling the vibe that neocities has been putting up, in regards to the, perhaps less-than-ideal state of Some aspects of the internet currently, so when i stumbled into the site, i was very happy to see the efforts to recapture this particular flavor of Personal Online Spaces
(while these days im personally not focused on the social aspects of sites like this, as a Community To Engage With, i'm glad that it exists for others to use, as a cute way to meet like-minded folks that isn't just, through algorithms)
so, when i finally decided i wanted to try my hand out at making my own site, i first went whole hog by setting up a thing of a fictional RPG, where each page on the site was its own little town/dungeon/etc map that you could explore by clicking on doors or stairs to 'move around' the maps
(some of the early 'maps')
unfortunately, i had trouble figuring out how to include the content of the pages (backlog progress, mini-reviews) in a way that felt, diegetic, not to mention implementing them in a way that made it easy for me to add additional pages or content without it being a huge hassle each time
(the more barriers in the way, the more likely i'll just, not bother updating, so that was an important goal for me to follow, thus the use of iframes to separate the Main Content from the rest of the site, instead of needing to mess with the whole thing at once each update)
so i decided to ditch the Map Exploration flavor, instead just going for a few separate pages all Themed after different kinds of RPG areas, like a Town, or a Library, but after struggling with the RPG theme past 'rpg battle victories to represent backlog progress', the idea of visual novel-style dialogue to match the mini-reviews hit me.
instantly i decided each page should match their own type of game/genre, and the rest is history, probably
in the end, im not, really sure what the point of the whole site really was, since im not planning on like, trying to get it noticed in any way, or present some information that is likely to relevant to others, but..
that's probably fine?
even though i scrapped a bunch of work each time i decided on a new direction for the site, i had a looot of fun drawing little retro-style RPG tilesets for the initial direction..
and playing around with html again felt kinda nostalgic, it's nice to know i still havent forgotten all the basics of that stuff, lol
honestly, it was very refreshing to get creative like this just for funsies, instead of working towards a bigger long-form project.
i had some potential ideas for additional pages, but i'm also, totally okay if this is all it amounts to
(and i've got a system to update the backlog progress/mini-reviews with 0% hassle, so i'll probably continue to do that for a while yet)
so, if you read all this, thanks for indulging me in my little Online Space, and i hope you'll allow yourself to indulge in a Cozy Comfort Zone once in a while, too
